Some QMEs employ third party "excerpters" or "transcriptors" to produce a summary document of all the medical records. This is convenient and saves the QME the time of having to do it on his/her own. However, Labor Code 4628 requires that the summary of the medical records be done by the QME him/herself. This has created a problem for some QMEs who have become exposed for having the Review of Records "ghostwritten" by someone other than him/herself.
